Position Summary
The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) is seeking an experienced Database Administrator, Development & Membership to lead the administration, integrity, optimization, and strategic use of Raiser’s Edge and related constituent data supporting the fundraising and membership programs of CAF and the Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center (NAEC).
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this position serves as the organization's primary Raiser’s Edge subject matter expert and works closely with Development and Membership to ensure donor, member, prospect, and constituent information is accurate, consistent, accessible, and structured to support organizational needs.
As CAF continues its transition to Raiser’s Edge NXT, the Database Administrator will help evaluate and implement available NXT functionality, support staff adoption, and identify opportunities to improve business processes as the platform evolves.
This is an excellent opportunity for a data-focused professional who combines strong Raiser’s Edge expertise with analytical and problem-solving skills and enjoys helping organizations use data and technology more strategically. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for Raiser’s Edge.
- Support CAF's continued transition to Raiser’s Edge NXT, including evaluating new functionality, testing, implementation, and staff adoption.
- Establish and maintain data standards, coding structures, data-entry procedures, security, and governance practices.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of donor, member, prospect, gift, and other constituent information.
- Partner with Membership to maintain data structures supporting membership records, renewals, retention, acquisition, engagement, and reporting.
- Partner with Development to support fundraising data, donor segmentation, prospect and portfolio management, campaigns, appeals, and reporting.
- Develop queries, reports, dashboards, lists, and analysis for Development, Membership, executive leadership, committees, and the Board.
- Manage routine and complex imports, exports, integrations, and data exchanges with third-party systems.
- Conduct database audits, manage duplicate records, and proactively identify opportunities to improve data quality.
- Support Development and Membership with constituent segmentation and analysis to identify opportunities for deeper engagement.
- Develop and maintain database procedures, documentation, data dictionaries, user guides, and training materials.
- Provide Raiser’s Edge and NXT training and ongoing support to Development and Membership staff.
- Collaborate with Finance and other organizational teams to support accurate reporting and effective use of constituent data.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Three to five years of experience in nonprofit database administration, advancement services, membership data management, Development operations, fundraising analytics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated professional experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, including constituent management, queries, reports, imports, exports, and data administration.
- Current working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge NXT and the ability to remain informed about and evaluate new and evolving functionality.
- Strong understanding of relational databases, constituent records, coding structures, data standards, and data management.
- Demonstrated experience creating queries, reports, imports, exports, and constituent segments.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret fundraising, membership, and constituent data.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Strong organizational, project-management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and appropriately handle confidential donor, member, and financial information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting an organization's transition from traditional Raiser’s Edge functionality to Raiser’s Edge NXT.
- Experience managing data supporting both fundraising and membership programs.
- Experience establishing data governance standards.
- Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising and membership practices.
- Experience with prospect management, wealth screening, donor segmentation, or moves management.
- Experience integrating Raiser’s Edge with online giving, email, membership, event, financial, or other systems.
- Experience developing dashboards or using data visualization tools.
- Experience working within a national, chapter-based, membership, museum, education, aviation, military heritage, or other mission-driven organization
The Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will be highly analytical and detail-oriented while understanding the broader organizational objectives the data supports. They will view Raiser’s Edge and constituent data as strategic organizational resources, enjoy identifying patterns and solving data challenges, and be able to translate technical concepts into practical solutions for nontechnical users.
Because CAF constituents may engage with the organization in multiple ways, including as members, donors, volunteers, event participants, and prospects, the Database Administrator will play an important role in helping CAF develop a more complete and useful understanding of its constituent relationships.
